​We got to try it ​with our dog Kylo. ​​​In this review you will find out:

Meet Kylo. This adorable two year old rescue, Border Collie – Lab mutt is the little bundle of joy me and my girlfriend, Hayley, love to spoil.

Kylo brings an immense amount of joy in our lives –a sentiment that dog lovers are certainly no stranger to. Another sentiment dog lovers are no stranger to is the inevitable separation from our pets.

Both my girlfriend and I work full time jobs. Kylo spends most of the day alone in our apartment, idling time away by playing with our cat, Ms Beasley, and lounging in our couch among other activities. We certainly miss him throughout the course of the day and would like to check up on him every so often. 

That’s when Furbo comes in. I’d like to think of  ​it as my instant gateway to interact with Kylo anytime, anywhere.

It is essentially a camera that tosses treats and is equipped with a two-way audio. It is ridiculously easy to use. Plug it in, download the app and it is ready for use. Set up time takes as long as you reading the paragraph above.

My girlfriend and I share a Furbo account and we both have the app downloaded in our smart phones. Through the app, we are able to activate the camera to see what Kylo is up to. 

Introducing The Furbo Dog Camera To Kylo

​As you can imagine, Furbo was not an instant hit with Kylo. The first few times I used ​the dog camera to call to my pup, he lovingly made his way to the door…

He would patiently wait by the door despite my calls. That evening, I made it a point to really train Kylo to associate ​the dog camera with my voice and tasty treats.

The biggest threshold for him seemed to be the whirring noise ​from the treat dispenser. Kylo was initially scared of th​at noise.

After a combination of training sessions with us throwing treats beside the the device and using the remote feature through our smart phones, Kylo began to really trust Furbo and recognize our voice through the device.  Within a week, he would ​come running upon hearing our voice.  

My girlfriend and I both have hectic jobs so we can only ​check in twice a day at most. Unless he is napping, the familiar sound of his dog collar tags ringing would follow my call. Kylo loves his Furbo dog camera!

There is actually an option to record a short audio clip prior to tossing treats to your pup. We elected not to use this option and just default to Furbo’s beep prior to tossing treats. Why? Just not our style.  

He even learned to follow the command “sit” before receiving tasty treats from us! As you can see, that adorable look of curiosity with the head tilt was directed at Furbo’s crisp camera. 

​​Furbo’s camera lends itself well to darker conditions. Kylo was quick to follow the sound of our voices and ​come over… standing by for a treat like a good boy!

​​​Bark And Intruder Alert

​Furbo dog camera also has some passive features that sends you notifications when it detects movement from your dog, barking, or if it spots a person through its camera.

Now Kylo is not a barker so we grew suspicious with the frequency of barking alerts. As it turns out, Furbo is not that great in discriminating barking noises from other noises. A simple sneeze or a cough can be interpreted as barking. I’d be curious to know how ​it works with dogs that are consistent barkers.

At any rate, this notification is easily silenced with a simple swipe. Where it fails in identifying sounds, ​it makes up for ​with it’s camera ID technology. ​The dog camera effectively alerts you when it spots movement from a person or your dog.

Whenever your dog is getting active, Furbo sends you an alert so you can play with your furball. We have certainly used ​it to communicate with Kylo throughout the course of a day. Also, Furbo’s camera is consistently adept in identifying when a person is within sight. This incidental security benefit can come in handy as well.

CONCLUSION

​All in all, we have had Furbo for four months now and we love it! For us, it breaks the monotony of a work day and allows us to somehow interact with our beloved Kylo. It keeps him engaged throughout the day through random little bits of play and treats. The past two decades have seen some tremendous breakthroughs in communication and has made our world a smaller, more interconnected place. Furbo brings that technology to life in our interaction with our pets –both us and Kylo are certainly happy to be a part of it!

How We Tested The Barkbox Subscription Boxes

 One of our friends has an extremely picky dog. Meet Bert, a ​Shar Pei that is as picky as he is cute.  He pulls up his wrinkly nose to most toys, and never plays with anything for more that a day. Ow, and he wants monthly surprises like no other.We decided to see how Bert would respond to 4 months of premium toys from the Bark box medium (that’s the best sized box available for him).

Month 1 – First Barkbox Arrives

​For our first month, the theme of this months barkbox was “Home for the Holidays,” because of Thanksgiving. When we opened the first of 4 boxes for dogs, there were a lot of things inside;

Some of these things we have seen around the local pet store, but many are entirely new. The only thing that Bert didn’t take to was the apron. Some dogs are used to being dressed up, and some are not. Bert is one of the latter kind and doesn’t like anything other than his collar on him.So there was no need to go to the pet store this month. And Bert was pretty happy, except when he was made to wear an apron:)

Month 2 – What’s In The Next?

​After the success of the first month, we were ripping the package open to see what surprise BarkBox would contain. This time the theme was “Lodge Life”. Bert was trying to put his nose in the box from the moment it arrived.

​This month’s dogs subscription theme turned out to be “Pup in the Air”. Let’s see what gifts we are getting this time. After the success of the previous boxes, We are becoming used to this excitement at the beginning of the month.

Dogs Are Happier And Healthier If They Have To Work For Their Food.

All animals have naturally evolved to be great at getting food. That is just the way nature works.

And dogs are no different.

Even after thousands of years of living with humans, dogs have their natural instincts to find and get food. Just look what happens if they are abandoned in the woods. Some may not make it, but most will go straight back to being a wild dog and hunting/scavenging.

But our dogs just get their food on a silver platter, every day and without effort.

It’s no wonder then that many get bored, fat, anxious, or stressed: A large part of their skills and drive are never used, so they try to exert their energy in other ways.

That all changes if you make a dog work for its food. Now they have to solve a problem, try different methods, and get the reward of food in the end. They appreciate the food more, can’t eat it super quick and train their brains and bodies.

There are many kinds of toys that make dogs work for their diet. The most famous is probably the Kong filled with a food paste. These can be great or not a challenge at all, depending on the dog.

Some Dogs Are Smarter Than Others

 Some may be challenged a lot by a Kong filled with peanut butter or other food. Others are just too smart for that, quickly figure it out and eat all the food.

Tug a Jug provides a unique challenge for two reasons:

• The standard methods (biting and shaking) don’t work
• Even if they figure it out, they still can only get a small amount of food at the time.

The dog needs to keep moving the rope in and out to get the food out bit-by-bit. So it keeps them from eating too quickly and also keeps their coordination and brain active.

Is The Tug A Jug Durable And Safe For My Dog?

 Anything that gets between a dog and its food needs to be durable. At least with most dogs.

The container (bottle) is made of very durable poly-carbonate. This material is famous for its use in bulletproof windows and unbreakable water bottles. It’s also safe to come into contact with food and for chewing.

The rope is made of natural fibers so that it’s also safe for chewing. The only downside is that it’s not very strong. It can break if your dog is using the wrong method. You can easily make a new rope, but it’s a downside of this, otherwise excellent, product.

How To Know If My Dog Will Like Toy?

Not every toy works for every dog. Because of their distinct personalities, some toys get completely ignored while others barely stop moving.

Tug a Jug is **not **a beginner puzzle toy – If your dog has never successfully solved any other smart dog toy, it’s very likely that it will just get frustrated.

It’s easier if your dog is food motivated – Most dogs are like that. And if you place their regular food in the Tug-a-Jug they will eventually try to get to it. But you might not be inclined to starve him/her.

So if your dog will do anything for a cookie or piece of food, and has some experience with puzzles, you are sure he/she will be motivated to work on the Tug-a-Jug

Be careful if your dog has weak teeth!! – The outside of the Tug-a-Jug is made of strong and hard plastic. A dog with bad teeth could hurt itself there.

How Robin Got Her Dog To Eat Slower And Get Smarter Without Spending More Than $15

My friend Robin has a cute shelter dog that eats its food quicker than any dog I have seen. Sometimes he pukes it right back out, and often he has severe diarrhea for days. It might have had something to do with his time before the shelter as he was found severely malnourished.

She had been trying all kinds of methods to keep him from eating so fast. But his ingenuity is almost as incredible as his eating speed. So he solves most puzzles in a matter of minutes and then just goes right back to stuffing himself.

I told her about Tug-a-Jug and she ordered one, right away.  I was there when she first gave the dogs its food in the purple container with cord. I must say, it wasn’t pretty:) He got so frustrated (there are holes in the bottom so dogs can smell the food inside) and was barking and biting like crazy.

But dogs are practical creatures in the end. And after a couple of minutes, he started to work his problem-solving skills. It didn’t take long for him to get the first piece of food out, and after that, he got better and better.

But the great thing is; he still can’t get all the food out at once. He is not bad at it but still needs at least 15 minutes to finish his meal. He doesn’t get sick anymore, and that was exactly what Robin was after.
